Recently, Alex and I have been crushing the weights together. Being in the business of supplements, we are constantly trying out and reviewing products featured in our packs. This week was “wodFuel Week”. If you have not had the opportunity to try out wodFuel, allow us to give you some of the product details and share our experiences with you.

wodFuel is a pre-workout formula developed specifically for CrossFitters, but great for all weightlifters and athletes. The streamlined ingredient profile does not contain any “fillers”. The formula is designed to maximize power and strength, promote focus and intensity, support overall endurance and accelerate muscle recovery. Sounds legit. How’d it turn out for us? Read below for both of our experiences.

I was eager to try wodFuel after discovering that it was the first CrossFit specific pre-workout. Even though I’m not a CrossFitter, I have mad respect for a lot of those diesels. Their workouts demand a blend of power, strength, endurance, flexibility, and sheer pain tolerance so it only seems natural that they’d need a boost to survive those grueling workouts.

Since many CrossFitters also tend to shy away from unproven or strange ingredients, wodFuel keeps it simple by only including top notch ingredients in moderate dosages. You won’t find any “proprietary blends” or “groundbreaking discoveries” in this product, but rather your tried and tested creatine monohydrate, beta-alanine, BCAAs, l-glutamine, caffeine, l-citrulline, and other basic yet effective ingredients. This is awesome for me since I tend to like clearly labeled and simple pre-workout formulas b/c I’m not a huge stimulant guy.

When I mixed the pre-workout sample in 8-10 oz of water I was worried it’d taste bad because the color was a little off-putting (yellowish brown). Despite not mixing particularly well, it tasted pretty good. About 15 minutes after downing this bad boy, I noticed a decent increase in energy and alertness. Not a “holy shit I am juiced and need to run to the bathroom” sort of energy that some pre-workouts give you, but a good boost nonetheless. This energy persisted throughout my workouts and I was pleasantly surprised when my high rep front squats seemed to not suck as much.

All in all I really enjoyed this product. Its clean and simple ingredient profile make it a perfect addition to any lifter or athlete’s supplement cabinet when they want something that works without overdoing it. Well done wodFuel!

First of all, I just want to make it known that I am not a CrossFitter. I enjoy and have participated in countless cardio/strength workouts and programs, but do not identify myself with the CrossFit community. Therefore, when I took wodFuel, I tried to use it like it was meant to be used, for crossfit style workouts. This involved high intensity interval training, explosive olympic lifting and circuit training.

Upon mixing wodFuel in my shaker I was a little surprised. The Lemon Ice flavor looks like iced tea, kind of a clear brownish mix. It did not mix very well but this could have been caused by my use of about 8oz of water, rather than the 12-16oz as directed (I like a strong mix). The flavor was also “interesting”. It actually kind of tasted like an Arnold Palmer (combo of lemonade and iced tea). While I give wodFuel credit for being different, i was not the biggest fan of their flavor. I always however, enjoy an ice cold Arnold Palmer. But this is neither here nor there because taste and mixability are the least important factors I consider in my pre-workouts.

Moving on to the effects. wodFuel did not overwhelm me with immediate energy, but the energy it did give me lasted for a long time. My muscular endurance was positively impacted and I was able to keep the intensity high for the entirety of the workouts. Some pre-workouts load you with energy in the beginning of your workout and then tucker out towards the half-way point. wodFuel gave me a steady stream of unadulterated energy that kept me cranking through the last set of the workout.

One thing that I love about wodFuel is the ingredient profile. It is very “basic” in the fact that it only includes the necessities. It is a combination of vitamins, a strength and endurance matrix, and a nitric oxide boost. I think the “minimal ingredients” used in wodFuel is a great concept. For a pre-workout designed for crossfit, wodFuel hits it on the head. Its not going to make you have a heart attack if you are doing cardio intensive exercise, and it still gives you great energy to last the whole workout.
